Surface Mounding Technology:
What is SMT?
Surface-mount technology (SMT) is a method for producing electronic circuits in which the components are mounted or placed directly onto the surface of printed circuit boards (PCBs). An electronic device so made is called a surface-mount device (SMD).
5-S PRINCIPLE:
The original “S”s are actually Japanese words which translate loosely into English as:
- SORT
- SET
- SHINE
- STANTATIZATION
- SUSTAINCE
SORT:
Remove all items not needed from the work area ,
Creates a work environment that :
- Mass Space
- Uses less energy
- Save time
SET:
Arrange the necessary items in good order and easy access
- Arrange items in an easy to use manner
- Anyone can find them
- Anyone can put them away
- The key is “anyone”
- Eliminates waste due to searching
SHINE:
Clean your workplace thoroughly
- lean the workplace and equipment on a daily basis, or at another appropriate (high frequency) cleaning interval.
- Inspect the workplace and equipment while cleaning.
- Make impression
STANDARDIZING:
Maintain high standard of house keeping and work place organization at all time.
- Make Sort, Storing, and Shining a daily habit
- Set the rules to make 5S part of everyone’s job
- Assign responsibilities for Sorting, Storing, and Shining
- Integrate Sort, Storing, and Shining into regular work activities
- Train , train train…
SUSTAIN:
sustain the developed processes by self-discipline of the workers. Also translates as "do without being told",
- Ensure that the 5S approach is followed.

- Perform regular audits to ensure that all defined standards are being implemented and followed
